10th region rivals Bourbon County Colonels and the Mason County Royals squared off Thursday night at Bourbon County High School. It was both teams 2nd game of the season Mason County took home a 63-43 win over Lewis County on Tuesday night where the Bourbon County Colonels fell to Montgomery county 85-44 also on Tuesday.

The game started off with a coin flip due to Covid 19 to determine who gets the ball 1st which Mason county won making them 2-0 in coin flips this year. The Royals started out of the gates hot as the ran up a fast 15-0 lead with just under 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter. It wasn’t until the 2:12 mark in the 1st quarter that Bourbon County was able to find their 1st basket of the game and it wasn’t even a field goal they was a pair of free throws and by the end of the 1st quarter it was 20-4 lead for Mason County. Bourbon County woke up in the 2nd quarter as they was able to cut a 18 point lead to 9 with just 2 minutes left in the 1st half. The Colonels capped of the 2nd quarter on a 20-6 run and only found themselves down 33-30 going into the halftime break.

Mason County would start the 3rd quarter with a run of their own and put the Colonels back in a double digit hole midway through the quarter as the Royals went back up 48-37. The Royals didn’t stop there has they would find themselves up 59-44 going into the last period of regulation. The 4th quarter started and Bourbon county owned it has they would storm back from 15 down and tie up the game and force overtime with the scoreboard reading 73-73. Overtime was a evenly matched battle and it appeared to be heading to a 2nd overtime but Mason County fouled Bourbon county’s Landon Martin with just 2 seconds left and he came up clutch by dropping both free throws and giving Boutbon County the 85-83 victory over Mason County.
